South Harbour Regeneration Project

Ayr is the oldest Port on the West coast of Scotland with a history dating back several hundred years. The town also boasts the busiest Beach in Scotland attracting thousands of tourist each year.

To the North end of the seafront and beach is located the South harbour basin which whilst having hundreds of years use for shipbuilding repair and fishing has like many similar areas in Scotland been allowed to decay and provides nothing to educate future generations as to its rich and impressive industrial past.

FSWCA have over the past few years been in discussion with the Local authority to upgrade and reinvigorate the area to provide a historical trail to educate visitors of the past uses of the area by means of large scale historical photos and written accounted of the history of the port.

There is also an opportunity to develop leisure facilities in the tidal basin to provide sailing, kayaking and other waterborne sports

Our Aims

The recent development of adjacent high end residential seafront flats give an ideal opportunity to closely involve the local community in the development proposals and it is hoped to involve not only the local community, the local authority but  also some of the significant large scale business in the area.
